Welcome to Class 1
We are a Reception class within our Foundation Stage. Our teacher is Miss Ward and our Nursery Nurses are Mrs Jackson, Mrs Mordey and Miss Morgan. We love learning new things and getting busy in the different areas of learning; especially in our Outdoor Barn! In our class we have phonics sessions each day and literacy and numeracy focused activities. We like to impress our teachers by trying our best and by being independent learners. We have lots of exciting things planned this year so please keep checking our Newsletters to find out more.
In Class 1, we do PE on a Monday and a Friday. Please send PE kits in on a Monday and leave them in school until Friday. We also read our books and key words daily so please remember reading bags each day. Feel free to pop in and speak to us, if you have any questions.

Class 1 Topics
Myself – We have been letting our new teachers know all about ourselves. We have been talking about our families, our friends and our favourite things to do. We have been doing lots of name writing and portraits of ourselves. We have been focusing on becoming independent at lunchtime, toilet times and when getting changed, with a little help of course!
We love the Autumn
We loved learning about seasonal change. We went on our on Autumn Walk to find Leaf Man. We used the leaves we found to make our own versions of Leaf Man.
The Great Class 1 British Bake off
We are becoming budding bakers in Class 1. This term we have prepared our own treats for Red Riding Hood’s Picnic and even made our own Gruffalo Crumble.
We love our soft play
We have been very lucky to have soft play in our Barn. We have time on our soft play every Thursday, to improve our gross motor skills. We use stories to set up our soft play and we love it.
We loved to see the fire engine
We are were so lucky to have the firefighters from Thornaby come into school and talk to us about staying safe on bonfire night. We even got to sit in the fire engine and use the hose!
We love the snow
How lucky were we to play in the snow? We loved watching the snow fall and getting to touch snowflakes before they hit the ground!
We love Christmas
We’ve had a busy time writing our letters to Father Christmas, practising for our Nativity and getting our classrooms ready for advent. We made special Christmas wishes when we decorated our tree. We thought about our families, friends and those less fortunate at Christmas.
