Class 10

Class 10

Welcome to class 10. We are a class of Year 5 children. Our teacher is Mr Sherrington and our teaching assistant is Miss Quigley.

In our class we love learning new things! We like to impress our teachers by trying our best and by being independent learners. Our teachers encourage us to grow in confidence by completing tasks independently and take more responsibility for our work.

We have lots of wonderful things planned this year so please keep checking our website and newsletters to find out more.

God Bless.

Thank you for visiting our Class page!

Emergency First Aid Week

As part of Emergency First Aid week, Class 10 children have been learning about the importance of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). We focused on the difference between a cardiac arrest and a heart attack, investigating the causes and the appropriate course of action.

Next the children learnt how to perform this a lifesaving medical procedure in groups, re-enacting an emergency situation. By performing chest compressions and rescue breaths, the children took over the role of unconsciousness person’s heart and lungs, pumping blood and oxygen around their body.

Every second counts – any delay can quickly reduce a person’s chance of survival.

We are ornithologists

Class 10 spent the morning with the local RSPB learning about how we can care for animals and our local environment during the Winter period.

To finish the session we made individual and environmentally friendly bird feeders. Our Eco-Warriors placed some of the extra feeders around the school grounds.

Choir spreading joy during the Advent period

We are very proud of our wonderful choir members, who have performed across the North East. They have sang at local events from Stockton Sparkles and the Mayor’s Carol event to Newcastle Airport.

We are bakers

As part of our design & technology topic, we created recipes, instructions and a Marks and Spencer style advert for our St Patrick’s wholemeal bread. It was great fun to produce our fresh and healthy bread, plus Paul Hollywood (Mr Conwell) popped by to judge the best bread.

We are songwriters

Former pupil and Cattle and Cane member Joseph Hamill, came into class to help us to create a welcome song for our new starters to school.

Welcome, welcome everyone
Come and join us, sing our song.
We are glad to welcome you
We will help you through our school.

If you’re feeling nervous,
Do not be afraid
Take a look around you,
You’ll find the wings to fly.

Everybody welcome (x2)

Everyone around the world
Stand up, shout loud, you’ll be heard.
Let his love come shining through.
We are all God’s children too.

We’re not judging you,
You shall be loved too.
Take a look around you,
You’ll find the wings to fly.

Everybody welcome (x4)

Year 5 visit to Liverpool

The Year 5 children of Class 10 have been thoroughly enjoying learning about the Titanic during their history topic. As part of their studies the pupils visited Liverpool Maritime Museum. We spent the morning at The International Slavery Museum, exploring the role Liverpool played in the slavery triangle across Europe during the 17th century.

The children spent the afternoon exploring first-hand accounts of the Titanic disaster. Using drama the children met a survivor from the infamous accident. They assumed roles, which highlighted the differences in classes, and investigated who was at fault for the fateful day on April 15th, 1912.

A fantastic and extremely thought provoking visit bringing to life the learning that has taken place in school.

RE and liturgies

With the help of our class chaplains, the children have planned, conducted and been part of some lovely liturgies this term. We have reflected on key events including Remembrance Day, World Peace Day, Advent and Christmas Crisis.

Remembrance Day

We conducted liturgies to remember all of those who have lost their lives for the freedom and values of us all. The class also created remembrance poems and poppies as a mark of respect.

Singing along with John Burland

Our visitor came all the ways from Australia. We sang, danced and thoroughly enjoyed raising the roof!

Goodbye Father Michael

A special mass for a special priest. Thank you for everything Father Michael and good luck in your new parish in Northallerton.

Special maths lessons with Christ the King and Mr Foster

Throughout the year, Class 10 will being taking part in joint maths lessons with Christ the King pupils and specialist maths teacher Mr Foster. The lessons aim to help us with different approaches to our learning.

Playing sport and keeping healthy.

During Autumn term Class 10 have being taking part in invasion games, such as tag-rugby, basketball, netball and handball. The children have learnt skills including positioning, strategy as well as passing and shooting techniques with the help of Mr Hobson.

Members of our class made up part of the St Patrick’s tag-rugby teams that made it through to the Stockton finals, playing games against a range of other schools in the area. Have a look at us taking part in our PE lessons below, there are a few contenders for spot the ball, plus one of spot Libby.
