Welcome to Class 4 – Always aiming high.
In Class 4 we all work really hard and have a great time doing it! Mrs Holtby, Mrs Lacy and Mrs Barber are very excited about the year ahead with our class of amazing Year 1s and Year 2s.
Our class is a busy, hard-working place but we always make time to answer questions if parents or carers have anything they would like to ask – home time is a great time to chat with us.
Year 1 children will be working towards their Phonics screening assessment in the summer and our Year 2s will be preparing for End of Key Stage 1 assessments. By the end of the year we will all be super ready for them!
We have PE on Monday and gymnastics on Tuesdays but please make sure children have PE kits in school all week. Our PE kit is a white t-shirt, black shorts and black plimsolls. All children should have a water bottle in school which needs to be taken home, washed and filled every night.
For homework we focus on 3 priorities: spellings, reading and learning times tables.
Our Year 1 children need to be able to count on or back in ones, twos, fives and tens and use this to derive the multiples of 2, 5, and 10 to the tenth multiple.
Our Year 2 children need to be able to Derive and recall multiplication facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and the related division facts.
Please try to read with your child every night and write a comment in their reading diary. It is also a big help if you are able to read a story to your child every night.
Spellings will be sent home every Tuesday. Please help your child to learn them at home using the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check method. We will test spellings every Monday.

World Book Day
Classes 9 and 4 worked with each other for World Book Day. We looked at The Twits by Roald Dahl. The children created their own Twits by using spaghetti, biscuits and lots of sticky glue! The children then created their own description of the Twits with some fantastic children in class 4 using similes and alliteration! Class 9 helped class 4 with any spellings or description they needed. On the afternoon, the children shared their descriptions and then created a trap to catch the Twits! Both classes had an excellent day and worked really well together! Well done classes 4 and 9.
